Say, for instance, as JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Or the original Star Wars. Or the Dragonriders of Pern series. Aw hell, I'll just say it: Christopher Paolini mashes together all those stories into one bland heap, and adds in random bits of other authors' work (such as Ursula le Guin or Garth Nix). So unsurprisingly, its ripe for snark.

The best part? He was a teenager when he started writing this... and boy, does it ever show. It's the first high fantasy novel that everyone who has ever read Tolkien wants to write.
