Oh yeah, I'm gonna need it. I think it's one of those ideas that SOUNDED better when you were high.

In the Earth year 453, Brendan, son of a lord of the Tuatha De Danaan and a lady of the Sidhefolk, faced off against Patrick the missionary, and knew it was time to get the hell out.

Yeah, one thing you quickly discover about Patricia Kennealy is that she's one of those people who converted to a religion and could only justify it by shitting all over her previous one. So she's always dropping not-so-subtle digs at Christianity and spitting at anyone who is a Christian.

And she hates Saint Patrick, mainly because he offered the people of Ireland the option of becoming Christians. Like most bigots, Kennealy doesn't like people having free choice if it means choosing something she wouldn't like.

The books are about what happens when he does: a Celtic civilization out among the stars, King Arthur meets Jean-Luc Picard;

Star Wars meets Riverdance!

with strong women characters all over the place.

I have not read all but two of Kennealy's books, so I can't judge her early heroines. But I can tell that by Blackmantle, she'd definitely gone from "strong" to "psycho Sue."

For more information on current titles in the series, see the Keltic Compendium, elsewhere on this very site.

Honestly, I don't recommend it unless you've read the series. It's just confusing, and not nearly as amusing. And probably better if you're high.
